High profile radio and television author and science commentator Dr Karl Kruszelnicki will be proudly hosted by the University of South Australia, School of Computer and Information Science, to talk about the great career opportunities in IT in July.

His visit follows last year’s highly successful presentation from the outrageous and entertaining media personality Ms Megabyte who flew in from interstate to talk to Year 10 - 12 female students about making their mark in this diverse and rapidly growing profession.

In Adelaide just for this meeting, Dr Karl’s presentation will highlight the opportunities and advances in IT which are growing exponentially and how contemporary society needs to be aware of these changes and adapt to them.

“I’ll be discussing the origins of IT and where it is going, with a specific reference to Moore’s Law. An IT career does not mean just working in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry themselves, but because IT is used by all business, government and schools; the choice of industry to work in is as large as the economy itself,” he said.

“While it is impossible to predict the future, it is certainly easy to predict that in IT, there are wonderful things ahead of us.”

By exploring less traditional areas of IT from entertainment to the genetic revolution, Dr Karl’s presentation will highlight the diversity of future career possibilities as well as the importance of IT to the progress of society.

His presentation style is both entertaining and engaging; Dr Karl’s knowledge and enthusiasm will reflect the profound IT-related challenges and opportunities that are emerging and will continue to emerge.

Dr Karl has made science fun for a whole generation of Australians. A survey at the University of Sydney, where he holds the Julius Sumner Miller Fellowship, found that one in seven students had chosen their career specifically because of him.

His enthusiasm for science is totally infectious and there is no-one better to convey the excitement and wonder of it all than Dr Karl.

If you’re a Year 10 - 12 teacher interested in ensuring your students are more engaged in IT, and whether or not you have an interest in IT, don't miss this unique opportunity to be entertained and informed by one of the most listened to and best qualified people who can tell you where IT is really at.

If you’re a Year 10 - 12 student, you can either inform your teacher about this event and come along with your friends, OR register yourself and come along anyway.

Opportunities exist for students to stay on and enjoy a light lunch, talk to Dr Karl personally and see some demonstrations of the type of things in his presentation, as well as in the School of Computer and Information Science.

Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment. Call Sue Small on 8302 0846 or email her by clicking on the link Dr Karl Event and also advise if you wish to stay on for lunch.
