Student Project Fair Day - 18 June, 2008
News Article
Riding on the wave of success of last year's inaugural Student Project Fair Days, CIS is hosting its third biannual Student Project Fair Day on June 18 from 10:30am at the City West Campus, University of South Australia.
Student projects, comprising a mix of year long and half year projects, will be on show for industry and academic guests, as well as for family, friends and the general public. Guests are encouraged to vote for the 'best project' in determining the eventual winner of the People's Choice Award.
The format of the day includes a formal welcome from CIS Associate Head: Teaching and Learning Dr Nina Evans, followed by the project exposition.
The formal welcome will feature the popular 'One Minute Madness'; a fast and furious introduction of each projects from project members.
A formal project handover is also featured where students hand in their physical deliverables to clients (or a representative), signifying the official end of their projects.

CIS Project Coordinator Sue Tyerman says the day is very special for students.
"Not only are most of them (the students) about to graduate, they have the pleasure of seeing their work recognised academically and by industry, aside from looking at their most professional in front of family and friends. As you can imagine, the address by the industry speaker and senior academics lend a sense of importance and occasion to this special day," she said.
"With projects long-located in industry and the community, and long-standing joint programs with other Schools, we believe that CIS is well on the way to achieving many of the experiential goals for programs identified in the recently released Step 2010 initiative."
Within the School, projects are core in many undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs including such disciplines as Software Engineering, Multimedia and e-Commerce.
In other degree programs, the project is a popular elective as students realise the benefits of applying their knowledge gained in academic studies to a problem presented by a client.
The School's Industry Alliance Program (IAP) has been instrumental in recruiting both industry partners and client organisations, both of which have been fruitful sources of student projects. As with previous Fair Days, all IAP industry partners will be invited to attend; critical to further expansion of the number and diversity of future student projects.
