Fourth Australasian User
Interface Conference (AUIC2003)
4-7 February 2003
Adelaide, Australia
The
Australasian User Interface Conference (AUIC) is a technology-focused forum for
user interface researchers and practitioners from Australia and New Zealand,
and throughout the world. The conference, which is one of several conferences
that constitute the Australian Computer Science Week (http://www.csa.edu.au/) provides an
opportunity for workers in the areas of HCI and CSCW to meet with colleagues
and with others in the broader computer science community.
AUIC
invites participation and submissions from researchers and practitioners with
an interest in techniques, tools, and technology for constructing high-quality,
innovative user interfaces over a wide range of areas including CSCW, VR,
multimedia, and the web. We solicit original papers, short papers, videos, and
demonstrations describing research or innovative practice, as well as proposals
for workshops and tutorials.
Topics
include, but are not limited to:
User interface architectures, tools,
techniques, and technology
Innovative applications and user
interfaces, including VR, multimedia, and adaptive interfaces
Distributed interfaces, including the World Wide Web
Ambient and highly mobile devices
(PDAs, wearable computers)
CSCW, group work, groupware, and
computer-mediated human communication
HCI education
Instructions
for Authors:
Submissions
must include the authors' names, affiliations and addresses, a 200-word
abstract, and 3 to 6 keywords identifying the subject area. Full papers
exceeding 10 pages and short papers exceeding 4 pages may be rejected. A paper
should not be submitted to more than one of the conferences in ACSW. Submitted
papers (and camera-ready copy for accepted papers) will be required to conform
to the formatting guidelines of the series Conferences in
Research and Practice in Information Technology. A sample Word style file, LaTeX style file and
LaTeX document are
available.
Papers
must be submitted by email attachment (PDF preferred, PostScript and Microsoft
Word acceptable) to
auic2003@cs.unisa.edu.au
The
covering email should indicate the name and details of the primary contact
author. Confirmation will be sent once the file has been successfully received.
Each
paper will be fully refereed by an international Program Committee. Papers will
be judged on originality, significance, correctness, and clarity. The
contribution of the paper should be clearly explained in both general and
technical terms.
Instructions
for Camera-ready Copy:
1.
Papers
should be formatted as specified in the Instructions for Authors at http://www.jrpit.flinders.edu.au/CRPITAuthors.html.
Any significant deviation from the style specified (minor changes are okay) may
result in the volume production being held up or the paper being excluded.
Please use the templates and style files provided. Not that only pdf and
postscript files will be accepted as MS Word has a nasty habit of altering when
transferred. Common Errors are not using A4 paper and not including the correct
copyright notice.
2.
All
papers should have email affiliations for authors. It is using these addresses
that we will contact the authors if we have any problems in publication.
3.
The
copyright statement should read
Copyright © 2002,
Australian Computer Society, Inc. This paper appeared at <conference
name>, Adelaide, Australia. Conferences in Research and Practice in
Information Technology, Vol. <volno>. <Editors>, Eds. Reproduction
for academic, not-for profit purposes permitted provided this text is included.
Assuming the CRPITStyle file is being used, the
LaTeX source should include something like either:
\newcommand\conferencenameandplace{Fourth
Australasian User Interface Conference (AUIC2003), Adelaide, Australia}
\newcommand\volumenumber{18}
\newcommand\editorname{Robert Biddle and Bruce
Thomas}
\toappearstandard
or
\toappear{Copyright \copyright 2002, Australian
Computer Society, Inc. This paper appeared at Fourth Australasian User
Interface Conference (AUIC2003), Adelaide, Australia. Conferences in Research
and Practice in Information Technology, Vol. 18. Robert Biddle and Bruce
Thomas, Eds. Reproduction for academic, not-for profit purposes permitted

after the /maketitle line.
You may have to download a new version of the style
file to use the first but we recommend it.
For Word, use a footnote after the abstract with a
hidden character as footnote marker.
4.
Volume
numbers are as follows:
Volume 18 AUIC 2003
5. The file should then be uploaded to the ftp site. Details for the uploading of the files are on the same webpage specified above. PLEASE USE SENSIBLE NAMES FOR YOUR FILES (ie paper.pdf is not useful). Camera ready only required - no source needed if the styles have been followed. Don't bother compressing the files. The catalogs to be used is /pub/crpit/incoming/Volnn. These are write only. Confirmation of receipt will be sent out once all files received.
6. The copyright form available at the website should be completed and sent to the address on the form.
